Relaunch of the PROMETHEE Cloud

The PROMETHEE Cloud is now available at promethee.cloud.

PROMETHEE Cloud

PROMETHEE Cloud is a web application designed to support decision-making processes using the PROMETHEE methods (Preference Ranking Organisation METHod for Enrichment of Evaluations). These methods belong to the family of outranking procedures for multi-criteria decision support and enable alternatives to be weighed against one another on the basis of several – even conflicting – criteria. The tool implements PROMETHEE I, II and V and also enables a detailed analysis of the decision-making problem through various sensitivity analyses.

Typical areas of application include:

  • Selection of measures for reducing emissions
  • Evaluation of investment options from ecological and economic perspectives
  • Site planning and resource management
  • Strategic decisions in research and teaching

The tool is aimed at researchers, analysts, consultants, educators and decision-makers who wish to carry out PROMETHEE-based analyses.

Visualisations

The tool offers several interactive views:

  • Outranking graph – shows the dominance relationships between the alternatives (PROMETHEE I)
  • Net flow ranking – displays the complete ranking according to PROMETHEE II
  • GAIA level – principal component analysis of the decision problem; the Decision Stick shows the direction of the weightings
  • Walking Weights – visualises how the ranking reacts to changes in criterion weights

Sensitivity analyses

A particular strength of PROMETHEE-Cloud is its sensitivity analyses:

  • Walking Weights: interactive analysis of the weight dependence of the ranking
  • Monte Carlo simulation: stochastic robustness test; weights and preference parameters are varied randomly to assess the stability of the decision recommendation

These functions help to assess the robustness of the results and, where necessary, to identify other viable alternatives.

For Research & Teaching

PROMETHEE-Cloud is also suitable as a teaching tool: students can model their own decision-making problems, interactively change weights and analyse the effects. The graphical outputs – in particular the GAIA layer and the Walking Weights view – make the decision-making problem clear.
